Maui - day 5 & day 6

Still here...still having a great time!
We spent most of the day yesterday on the "Road to Hana". It was a fabulous drive with many incredible views. It's what we always thought Hawaii would look like. Tons of vegetation, waterfalls, pools, caves, views of the ocean from high on a cliff, waves crashing on the lava rock, etc. etc. etc. We didn't go with Aimee and Glen four years ago because we had been told that it was just a windy road that took all day. It was that, but so much more. We bought a CD with a self tour and it was great. It let us know of places to stop and things to turn off the road and look for and it was so worth it. We do have pictures now of some incredible stuff, I just don't know yet how to add them to the blog. Last night we went to dinner where we went with Aimee and Glen and watched the Luau from the other restaurant. It was fun. Wandered through some shops again and got a few "prizes"!

Today we rented some snorkel stuff (the free stuff here at the cottage was garbage) and drove 45 minutes south to a Natural Underwater Preserve at Ahihi-Kenau Park. The snorkeling wasn't much different from the area we could have gone right here in Lahaina (MM14) but we did get to see more on the drive. There wasn't a sandy beach, just lots of lava and coral so I was glad to have a beach chair. The snorkeling was fun with lots of colorful fish to see. It really pooped us out and we came home and took a two hour nap! We had planned to watch the sunset but slept right through it. Oh well, there's still tomorrow. Now we're going to cook some salmon for dinner and who knows if we'll go out tonight or not! One day left and we'll be back to real life.

Maui - day 3 & day 4

It has continued to be cloudy and sometimes rain. Yesterday we did get a little too much sun in between the sprinkles. It is still warm even when it rains so we really don't mind. We are 1/2 block from the beach and we have spent an hour two there the last two days. It is so convenient. Dad's even done a bit of snorkeling. We forgot our water socks so we had to get some new ones. We went to that show - 'Ulalena last night. It was great and dad found a new musical instrument that was quite interesting -- the nose flute. We bought their CD and now have some great Yoga music! It was a great dinner and a really nice evening. Today we came back from the beach, showered and cooked some Mahi Mahi for dinner. We ate outside and played rummy. Then we went to town and wandered through some galleries
and then went to a movie -- Leatherheads. It was fun. Now we are heading to bed we can get up early and take the "Road to Hana" tomorrow. That should be an all day event. I'm wondering if any of you have found this blog yet. The only ones I've heard from are Gram & Jeanne. Thanks for your update on life in San Jose. I also miss our daily chats!

Maui - day1 & day 2

Hi everybody! We are in Maui. We were about an hour late landing because the pilot had to deal with 100 MPH headwinds, but the flight was fine. We got our little blue Ford Focus and headed to Lahaina. We got here to our little "beach cottage" and crashed about midnight. We got a wake up call from Becca at 5:50 AM. She was playing with Emily's phone on her way to "pre-sool" and just happened to hit a previous call. We had a nice relaxing day yesterday. We wandered around Front Street in Lahaina and did some shopping. We had dinner at the Front Street Bar & Grill, the main purpose of our trip!! Dad enjoyed his steak but wished his "taster" wasn't messed up so it could have been as good as four years ago! By 6:30 pm dad said he was ready for bed. We came back to our little place and he made it until about 8 pm before he was out. Today it has been raining pretty steady. We have a Japanese "Fudo" tub here so I spent a long time this morning soaking and reading. Dad went to get eggs, since they were out of them yesterday when we shopped. He made breakfast when he got back and we've just relaxed all day watching TV and reading. (Guess who did what!) We have reservations for dinner at the Rain Forest Restaurant at 5 pm followed by a show ... 'Ulalena. They compare it to a Cirque du Soleil show so it should be good. This has been a very relaxing, low key vacation and we are sure enjoying it! I will eventually send a picture or two when we take some... if I figure out how!
